It seems like several years ago, I stumbled upon a small picture featuring a stunning Swedish dining table that didn't have a credit. The picture must have been 150 large by 200. Big enough to capture a persons attention, but considerably too small to see the room if you were interested. The picture was out of a magazine I believe, or off a blog, but I hung on to the picture because I loved it so much. I ended up stumbling across the picture after thumbing through Avolli's website. Avolli was asked a few years ago to participate in the Old York Historical Society Decorator Show House. Avolli was selected by Joy (Read More.....)
Swedish Dining Room Tables
Tara Shaw Swedish Dining Tables
These lovely Swedish tables are not seen too often. I actually came across a genuine Swedish table in Washington DC at an auction many years back, and at the time I had no idea what I was looking for when it came to antiques, let alone Swedish Antiques. The two demi lunes were paired together at the auction, and the middle table was left on its own. So, I bought the demi lunes by themselves, and remember seeing the middle section, but because the table was not paired all together I only bought the demi lunes. The table I purchased was an antique, so the legs didn't come off, and the table was incredibly big for our little condo at the time, so they were sold on craigslist for a deal. The tables were painted black sadly, (as I was in a black phase) and t (Read More.....)
Tara Shaw Swedish Furniture Reproductions
Tara Shaw has a keen eye for good looking antique furniture. Like many dealers who buy antiques from Europe and bring them to America, Tara Shaw started realizing that the treasures from Europe were slowly disappearing. She describes in Southern Woman Online that in Europe she would sleep in hotels that would cost $30 dollars a night, and trade with the dealers from four to nine o'clock in the morning, while the other dealers would arrive at 10 o'clock. She would go to Europe 5 times a year looking for these hard to find antiques. There is no doubt this woman has worked hard to where she is today! In 2004, she built a reproduction line, which she calls Tara Shaw Maison. Her line is distinguished by (Read More.....)
Swedish Lime Washed Dining Chairs

I came across these really beautiful antiqued Oak empire (set of 6) dining chairs from MBW Furniture on ebay. The dining chairs had the square back and fluted legs that is commonly found in very common in the Swedish designs in the 18th century. MBW Furniture custom builds furniture, so even if these are not available, inquire about having something built from scratch. I often look on MBW to see what they have up from week to week, because they have such beautiful fur (Read More.....)

Antique Swedish Secretaries
Galerie Half in Los Angeles is selling a stunning Swedish secretary which is still painted in its original milk-painted finish. The distressed paint and its brass handles really provide a great contrast against the black paint. You can see that this secretary has a really dark painted finish that you often don't get with normal latex paint. The color is striking and would look terrific against a classic gray painted wall.

Do It Yourself Upholstery
Over the last several years I have jumped into upholstery without any experience, and through all the mistakes I am so glad I had the interest to learn. It has allowed me to recover many of the second hand chairs and settes that I have found for an affordable price. Swedish style is certainly a style that I adore, but there is no way we could furnish a whole house buying antiques. Thinking back to the first chair I recovered, I am sure it was sloppy, but I learned my mistakes and moved forward. When it is your home, who cares if you make mistakes. Learning can be a lot of fun, and you get better as you practice. I am in no way a professional, although I have learned a ton over the years that I would like to share with you.
At first, I had no idea what I was doing. It would have helped if I took some classes as soon as I got interested in it, but I decided to take the long dri (Read More.....)
